Subject: News from ADHO: Conferences, Publication Opportunities, and More
It has been a month since the DH2026 conference brought more than 850 colleagues, including 200 online participants, to Daejeon in South Korea. This amazing event truly brought the conference theme "Engagement" to life, and we want to use this opportunity to look back at the conference, share some of its highlights, and provide you with some of the resources and memories collected by our hosts from the KADH association.
Have a look at the inspiring keynote lectures presented by Kim Hyeon, Maciej Eder, and Kirsten Thorpe, join us in congratulating the Roberto Busa Prize winner Julia Flanders and the Paul Fortier Prize winner Rowan Hall Maudslay, and in welcoming the Hong Kong Association for Digital Humanities (HKADH) as a new ADHO Constituent Organization.
We want to express our gratitude and appreciation to our dear colleagues from KADH for their friendliness, enthusiasm, diligence, grace, and tireless commitment to making the DH2026 conference such an amazing experience for everyone.
We also want to remember our esteemed colleague Natsuko Yoshiga, who sadly passed away during the conference, with deep sorrow, appreciation, and gratitude for her contributions to Digital Humanities and to the JADH and ADHO communities.
After the DH conference is before the DH conference, so we are delighted to also share some information from our future conference hosts about the upcoming ADHO conferences.
There have been some changes to the ADHO Executive Board and Constituent Organizations Board, and we are very grateful to both the outgoing and incoming members for their generous dedication to our community. DH2026: Engagement, the 36th annual ADHO Digital Humanities conference, was held on 27–31 July 2026 at the Daejeon Convention Center in Daejeon, South Korea, hosted by the Korean Association for Digital Humanities (KADH).
The following materials are now openly available:
Deposits to the Zenodo community are voluntary and continue to be accepted, so presenters who have not yet uploaded their materials are warmly encouraged to do so.

Hosting the first DH conference in Korea was a genuine privilege, and we look forward to seeing you in Galway next year!
- DH2027 will be the 37th annual conference of the Alliance of Digital Humanities Organizations (ADHO). The event will take place from 28 June to 3 July 2027 at the University of Galway in Galway, Ireland. The theme of the conference is “Creativity.” The Call for Papers is coming soon! Follow news and updates about DH2027 on the conference website and through the ADHO and DH2027 social media channels on LinkedIn and Bluesky.
- DH2028 will be held in Cape Town, South Africa, from 4 to 7 July 2028 and will be hosted by the South African Centre for Digital Language Resources (SADiLaR).
- We are pleased to announce that DH2029 will be held in Padua, Italy, in July 2029. More details will be shared soon!
We are delighted to recognize the recipients of the ADHO awards, which celebrate and encourage outstanding contributions to the field of Digital Humanities.
The Paul Fortier Prize was awarded to Rowan Hall Maudslay for the paper “Decoding Tupaia’s Chart: A 250-Year-Old Mystery Holding the Secret of Pre-Contact Polynesian Sea Networks,” presented at DH2026. Named in honour of scholar and mentor Paul Fortier, the annual prize recognizes the best paper presented by an early-career scholar at the Digital Humanities conference.

The Roberto Busa Prize was awarded to Julia Flanders in recognition of her outstanding lifetime achievements in applying information and communication technologies to humanities research. Her contributions span more than three decades and include her leadership of the Women Writers Project, Digital Humanities Quarterly, the Text Encoding Initiative, ACH, and ADHO, as well as her work as a teacher and scholar.

Conference Bursary Awards were presented to 32 recipients. These awards support students and early-career scholars whose papers, panels, or posters have been accepted for presentation at the annual Digital Humanities conference. They aim to encourage new contributions to digital humanities scholarship and support the participation of emerging scholars in the field.

Awards Committee Incoming Deputy Chair
The Incoming Deputy Chair will help coordinate ADHO’s awards, including the Busa, Zampolli, and Fortier prizes and the Conference Bursary Awards, and contribute to reviewing and developing the organization’s awards processes. This is a three-year appointment: the successful candidate will serve first as Incoming Deputy Chair, then as Deputy Chair, and finally as Chair through the end of the DH2029 conference.

2026–2027 ADHO Communications Fellowship
The Communications Fellowship offers a graduate student, emerging scholar, or academic professional the opportunity to gain experience in communications and graphic design while contributing to ADHO’s public-facing activities. The 2026–2027 Fellow will focus on developing a consistent visual identity and a new set of reusable templates for ADHO’s social media communications. The fellowship runs through 31 October 2027 and includes a one-time stipend of €500.

ADHO is pleased to announce that the Hong Kong Association for Digital Humanities (HKADH) has joined ADHO as its newest constituent organization.
The Hong Kong Association for Digital Humanities (HKADH) is a non-profit, non-political scholarly organisation promoting digital humanities in the Hong Kong SAR. The Association is dedicated to integrating digital technologies into various humanities disciplines as well as fostering understanding of society’s digital transformation through a humanities lens. HKADH also offers guidance and recommendations on incorporating the digital humanities into secondary and higher education and encouraging interdisciplinary collaboration.
As a constituent organization of ADHO, HKADH will contribute to fostering digital humanities research and collaboration in Hong Kong and East Asia, supporting multilingual DH initiatives and local community engagement, and strengthening global networks of scholars, practitioners, and institutions.

HKADH 2027 is currently welcoming submissions for the Hong Kong Association for Digital Humanities Annual Conference “Model/Making: Toward Generative Humanities” that will be held on 21-24 January 2027. The call for abstract submission has been extended to September 15, 2026.

We are pleased to announce the formation of the Special Interest Group for Interactive Digital Narratives (SIG_IDN). The new SIG brings together scholars, artists, designers, technologists, and creative practitioners working on interactive and computationally mediated forms of storytelling.
Interactive Digital Narratives encompass works in which computation, interface, and user participation shape the production, sequencing, performance, and interpretation of narrative experience. These include electronic literature, digital storytelling, interactive documentary, narrative games, locative and pervasive storytelling, XR and VR environments, multilinear and database narratives, computational narrative, and AI-mediated storytelling.

The Executive Committee of the Red de Humanidades Digitales (RedHD) is pleased to announce that the Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá, Colombia, will host the VIII Encuentro de Humanistas Digitales in October 2027. We received several strong proposals from institutions across the region and are grateful to all who participated in the process.
